On Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th August, there will be a stand for Portsmouth European Cities Twinning Committee at the Kite Festival on Southsea Common. This year the International aspect is not possible due to Covid travel restrictions, however we will be representing the many international links available to people live in Portsmouth.
(This page works like Wikipedia, clicking on the words in blue and underlined, will take you to further information about the item mentioned).
We will have a gazebo decorated with flags from every nation Portsmouth has a connection with, either as a twin city, sister city or partnership city. You can find out much more about all these links by clicking here.
We will hopefully also be accompanied by Shaping Portsmouth's Portsmouth Ambassadors, of which I am Vice Chair of the Steering Group. If we do, you can fill in a Postcard to Portsmouth, a feature that will be used at forthcoming Shaping Portsmouth events.
We may have representatives from Haifa Committee too.
We are currently running a competition to design a new postcard which will be held on future stands as a give away item. There is a £100 prize for the winning design provided by former city councillor Steve Pitt. You could hand in physical copies of your designs on that day with contact details in case you should win the competition.
You can collect an application form from us to join the Friends of Portsmouth Twinning Group and get as involved as you want in twinning with Caen and Duisburg, including invitations to any events we hold throughout the year including some possible visits arranged exclusively for members. You can find out more and download an application form from here or the form is available just below this text.
